Freedom of Speech

Freedom of speech, the first amendment in the Bill of Rights. This amendment can be seen or viewed in many different ways. I think that this means we can say whatever and whenever, but that doesn’t mean that consequences cant be given. We always have the option to say whatever we want. If you owed some organized crime group $10,000 and they captured or found you… you can say “Well to bad I don’t want to pay.” When that happens, basically, you can kiss yourself good bye, but you had the option to say that or something else. You said what you wanted to say and expressed yourself to a dozen mobsters and if there is anything I have learned off movies is… you are dead, and consequence soon (if not instantly) followed. As a blogger on this site, I think that freedom of press (since it isn’t really “speech”) is simply limited. I could say something racist, cuss, give personal information, but consequences would really soon follow (trust me). Also freedom of press should also mean “Know who you are talking to before you say anything.” Right now, for all I know, you are one of my teachers, a friend, or some 20 year old in Mexico, or a 10 year old in Spain. So bloggers need to think that everyone and all ages are reading their blog. So naturally bloggers will limit what or how they express themselves, but of course there are some exceptions and that is why freedom of press has to be limited.

I agree on some points, but what is the connection with mobsters? They couldn’t care less about your rights, and would (according to yourself) kill you, whether you say “You will rot in hell,” or “God Bless You.” Overall, this is well written. Thank You.

That is really true. We never know who will read our blog, so we need to write things appropriate for all people to see. We shouldn’t write something that would hurt someone because they might see it. Nice post.

I really like the example you gave! You are right that if you want to be racist, cuss, or other things, consequences will come later. I now know to be careful with what I write beacuse as you said, t can be a 10- year old in Spain, or someone right here! I really agree with you. Very good job!!!
